SB Week Mock 2 rounds

by danjr

The Super Bowl is less then 1 week away and there are only 2 positions left to determine in the draft order. Leave Comments! 1/29

1. Browns: Sam Darnold QB USC

There is a chance they could go after a FA but I think they hired John Dorsey to draft the right QB and Darnold has the biggest ceiling out of all the QBs.

2. Giants: Josh Rosen QB UCLA

Eli Manning is 37 and will be 4 months away from turning 38 when the 2018 starts. Rosen is the most polished QB in the draft and depending how everything works out he could spend a year behind Eli before taking the reigns in 2019.

3. Colts: Bradley Chubb DE NC State

I think this is a prime spot to see a trade right here as the Colts are sitting pretty with Luck at QB. If they are forced to stay at 3 I can see them deciding between Chubb, Barkley, Nelson. The defense has been missing elite talent for years and there should be quality on the OL and RB in later rounds.

4. Browns: Minkah Fitzpatrick CB Alabama

Many have mocked Barkley here but Fitzpatricks versatility at either Safety or CB will make him highly sough after. The Browns haven't had a play maker in the secondary since Joe Haden was in his prime. Fitzpatrick will be used in a variety of roles and it wouldn't surprise me to see them double dip at DB in the draft.

5. Broncos: Quenton Nelson OG Notre Dame

I wanted to mock them a QB but I have a feeling that Elway will not want to wait for a rookie to develop while his championship caliber defense still are in their window to win. Look for them to make a play for Cousins or possibly Alex Smith. Even if they get their QB protection for him will be of the highest importance. Nelson has drawn comparisons to Steve Hutchinson if he lives up that he will be more then worthy of the #5 pick.

6. Jets: Josh Allen QB Wyoming

The Jets are another team that could be in he FA QB market but I actually really like the fit for Allen here. They should be able to bring Josh McCown back for 1 more year and he would be the perfect mentor for Allen until he is ready to take over. Allen has been compared to Carson Wentz but not as polished coming out. Allen is coming off a strong Senior Bowl showing and has been linked to the Browns at 1 so if the Jets can get him at 6 and finally hit on the QB position, they should be able to eventually compete in the AFC East.

7. Buccaneers: Saquon Barkley RB Penn State

The Bucs need a pass rusher but Barkley is just too good to pass up at 7. He is considered by many to be the #1 player in the entire draft. There is a high likelihood that Doug Martin is not back so this could be a perfect landing spot for the game changing RB.

8. Bears: Calvin Ridley WR Alabama

Possibly a reach but the Bears have no WRs for their 2nd year QB to throw to. Ridley was not in a very pass happy offense so he was not featured like a true #1 WR but he should end up being much more productive at the next level.

9. Raiders: Roquan Smith OLB Georgia

Pretty much a perfect match for the Raiders. Need meets value here and the Raiders and Smith can start at OLB if they bring Bowman back and eventually take over at MLB.

10. 49ers: Denzel Ward CB Ohio State

There are no WRs that fit this spot so the 9ers continue to rebuild their defense. Ward may not be as good as Lattimore was last year but he is still deserving of a top 10 pick. The 49ers have needed a solid QB for years and with Ward, they get a plug and play starter.

11. Dolphins: Tremaine Edmunds OLB Virginia Tech

The Dolphins need LBs and pass rushers. Edmunds solves both! He also has the versatility to move inside if needed.

12. Bengals: Mike McGlinchey OT Notre Dame

The Bengals have spent some picks on OL the last few years but they have not panned out they way they hoped. Nelson can play LT or RT or possibly Guard if needed. The Bengals will want to get back to a strong run game and to give their QB some time get the ball to AJ Green.

13. Redskins: Rashaan Evans ILB Alabama

QB could be a strong possibility if Cousins leaves but if not Evans could be the pick here to be the leader of this defense that they have missed since London Fletcher retired.

14. Packers: Arden Key DE LSU

Packers have many needs but I just went BPA that hits a need. Key has top 5 talent but falls due some character concerns.

15. Cardinals: Baker Mayfield QB Oklahoma

I would also look for AZ to be in the FA QB market but if they cannot solve it in FA Mayfield could be the guy in AZ. He has great leadership traits and the current Heisman winner is a proven winner but his size and attitude could cause him to slip a bit.

16. Ravens: Orlando Brown OT Oklahoma

The Ravens could also reach for a WR but I dont like the value here so they take care of the RT spot which is definitely a big need the Ravens have to fill. Brown is a massive player who is a perfect fit on the right side.

17. Chargers: Connor Williams OT Texas

Russell Okung did a good job last year but based on his age and history of injury he is not dependable. Williams can start day 1 at RT and in the event of injury or once the Chargers move on from Okung they will have their LT of the future.

18. Seahawks: Derwin James S FSU

The Seahawks have needed OL for years but after the last year with all the injuries to their defense they need to start rebuilding. There are reports that Kam Chancellor may have to retire due to a neck injury and Earl Thomas is coming up for a new deal. James is a very talent safety but falls due to some injuries. He could be a nice replacement for Chancellor if he does in fact retire.

19. Cowboys: Vita Vea DT Washington

The Cowboys have needs along the DL, specifically in the middle. They gave up a lot of rushing yards last year and have needed a plugger for some time. Vea is a massive run stuffer who should play day 1 while they continue to build out the defense from the inside out.

20. Lions: Marcus Saugen OLB Eastern Washington

***NOT LISTED***Marcus Davenport, OLB/DE, UT San Antonio. Davenport had a great Senior Bowl and is now flying up draft boards. Davenport will be the perfect fit in Matt Patricia's hybrid defense. He can play OLB in some fronts and also play with his hand in the dirt in others.

21. Bills: Maurice Hurst DT Michigan

Once they traded Dareus to the Jags they became very susceptible to the run. They are now able to replace that production with Hurst, who has drawn some comparisons to Arron Donald.

22. Bills: Billy Price C Ohio State

I thought about QB here but I am not sure if they look into FA or stick with Taylor. Also, I am not sure if Rudolph or Lamar Jackson could start day 1. This pick wasn't a major need up until this past week when Eric Wood unexpectedly was forced to retire with a neck injury.

23. Rams: Joshua Jackson CB Iowa

Trumaine Johnson cannot be tagged for a 3rd time so there is a chance he could leave in FA. Regardless they still need an upgrade across from him.

24. Panthers: Courtland Sutton WR Southern Methodist

the Panthers traded Kelvin Benjamin during the season and while Devin Funchess did an admirable job he is not a true #1 WR. Sutton stands at 6'4 and can be a great red zone target and give the Panthers back he size dimension they lost with Benjamin.

25. Titans: Harold Landry DE Boston College

The Titans took a big leap this year making the playoffs and with the hiring of Mike Vrabel taking the defense to the next level will be a major priority. They need to get some youth and more production from the pass rush, so Landry would fit the mold of what Vrabel would be looking for.

26. Falcons: Da'Ron Payne DT Alabama

Payne dominated the national title game and solidified himself as a 1st round pick this year. He could end up going much higher but if he did fall this far the Falcons would rush to the podium to turn in their card. The Falcons are still building out the defense and Payne could be among the final touches.

27. Saints: Mason Rudolph QB Oklahoma State

Drew Brees is going year to year and technically is a FA, although everyone expects to resign with the Saints. That being said Brees just turned 39 so it makes sense to draft and groom the heir apparent.

28. Steelers: Malik Jefferson OLB Texas

The loss of Ryan Shazier hurt the Steelers against the Jaguars and they were unable to replace his production. Jefferson can do a lot of the thing Shazier was able and would be quality replacement in the Steelers scheme.

29. Jaguars: Kolton Miller OT UCLA

Cam Robinson did well as a rookie but LT still needs to be updated. Tom Coughlin builds teams in the trenches and Miller should be able to come in and compete with Robinson at LT & the loser of that competition would fill the need at RT. QB is also an option but if they do move away from Bortles, I believe they would go after a vet FA.

30. Vikings: Harrison Phillips DT Stanford

They invested heavily in their OL last year and still have more work to do, but after the NFC championship game and how badly they were gashed in the run game they have to find an upgrade next to Linval Josepth and a replacement for Shariff Floyd who's career is in jeopardy.

31. Eagles: Brian O'Neill OT Pittsburgh

Nobody is sure if Jason Peters is coming back but even if he does they will need to secure a LT for the future. O'Neill has been rising on all the boards lately the former TE turned tackle has the necessary athleticism to be a LT at the next level.

32. Patriots: Isaiah Oliver CB Colorado

Malcolm Butler was asking for a trade last offseason but he was unable to get his wish. They paid big money for Stephon Gilmore so it is unlikely they will shell out more on Butler this year. The Pats always have a contingency plan and if Butler walks Oliver can come in to take his place just as the Pats have done for years getting rid of guys who they don't want pay and replacing them with cheaper talent found in the draft.

I see Eli staying for this year also. The pick was more about the future.
